Exclusive: Videos of AKA’s fatal incident emerges. On Friday, the news of the shooting death of popular South African rapper, Kiernan Jarred Forbes, also known as AKA, sent shockwaves throughout the country.
The 35-year-old artist was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting outside of Wish Restaurant in Durban, South Africa. The Durban police department has confirmed the rapper’s death on the scene.
According to reports, AKA was standing outside the restaurant with a friend, Tebello Tibz Motsoane, and his bodyguard when two unknown vehicles opened fire on them.

AKA was hit six times, and Motsoane was also killed in the shooting, while the bodyguard was wounded. The rapper was due to perform at a Durban nightclub, YUGO, as part of his birthday celebrations.

AKA rose to fame in 2009 with hit songs such as “Mistakes,” “In My Walk,” and “Do It.” He won several Metro FM awards, including Best Newcomer, Best Hip Hop, and Best Produced Album for his debut album, “Altar Ego.”

His fourth studio album, “Mass Country,” was set to be released on February 24th, 2023. The first single off the highly anticipated album, “Lemons (Lemonade),” went gold in September of last year, and was followed by “Paradise” with Musa Keys and Ghanaian singer Gyakie in November.
The latest track, “Prada,” featuring Motswako rapper Khuli Chana, was released to great acclaim.
Two years ago, AKA lost his fiancé, Anele “Nellie” Tembe, who passed away after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town. He is also the father to DJ Zinhle’s daughter, Kairo, and was in a relationship with rapper Nadia Nakai.
