Denis Onyango was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda. Little is known about Onyanga’s childhood, but he claims he has always loved soccer. Football does not pay much in Uganda; therefore, Onyango relocated to Ethiopia after landing a contract with Villa SC. He later moved to South Africa, where he has remained ever since.

In 2002 he moved to Ethiopia after being signed to Villa SC and stayed with the club till 2005 when he joined St George SA.
