Makhadzi is topping trends after she was taken to court, and ordered to pay more than R8 million after swingling a sneaker line. She has been making all sorts of headlines of late thanks to her newfound fame. However, in the of things, Makhadzi and Open Mic Records have been topping trends for the wrong reasons after they were dragged to the Pretoria High Court by the Kicks Sportwear company after they breached the terms and conditions of their partnership agreement.
In 2021 the celebrated musician announced that she was launching her sneaker line in collaboration with the Kicks Sportwear brand. However, according to Kicks Sportwear, the two parties involved failed to honour their part of the deal resulting in them turning to the courts.
It has been revealed that Makhadzi refused to wear their sneakers to gigs and to promote them on her social media accounts which was part of the deal. Taking it to the media, the Kicks has it that it had a substantial financial loss due to Makhadzi’s breach.
“The plaintiff, therefore, claims damages for the following: The units of shoes in the warehouse being 6 900 pairs, less 20 pairs, sold in Limpopo, thus being 6 880 shoes at the retail price they would have sold, for if first and second defendants did not breach the partnership agreement, thus amounting to R8 249 120.
“But yet again due to the breach caused by the first and second defendants, the plaintiff suffered a tremendous financial loss of R379 921, which invoices was attached to the letter of demand that was sent on the 6th of May 2022,” reads the papers.

However, in the mix of things, Makhadzi and Open Mic are yet to address the daring allegations that have thrust them into the top trends for the wrong reasons. The court’s papers also noted the company’s substantial financial loss.
“The plaintiff further claims damages for all expenses incurred in adhering to the terms and conditions of the partnership agreement and trying to make the launch of the limited edition brand a success.”
However, reports have it that Makhadzi has been ordered to pay the following:
“1. Payment of the amount of R8 629 041 as per the letters of demand; 2. Costs of the [law] suit, on an attorney and client scale; 3. Further and or alternative relief.”
However, despite being embroiled in legal woes, Makhadzi has been winning big. No doubt she has been dupped as one of Mzansis finest when it comes to electrifying performances. To cap her illustrious career that spans years, she has managed to cap her career with several awards.
