Advocate Thabani Mpofu has been released on $20 000 bail.
In a court session that took so long, Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi finally granted Advocate Thabani Mpofu a $20 000 bail.
Initially Mpofu had been charged on two cases, but the State added a third.
State prosecutors also opposed bail, arguing that Mpofu, who had handed himself over to the police on Monday, was a flight risk and has the ability to abscond trail.
Mpofu’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, in his defense, led a legal onslaught on the state, questioning the logic behind the state’s opposition to bail. Mtetwa argued that Advocate Thabani Mpofu has no reason so abscond trial as the case has been under investigation for almost 18 months.
Advocate Thabani Mpofu is accused of creating a fake Simbarashe Zuze, who signed an affidavit in a Constitutional Court Challenge. Simbarashe Zuze in question has been to police for several times to prove that he is indeed a real person and he had his signatures taken for 15 times.
