Background
Busiswa was born in the Eastern Cape. At a very young age, she relocated to Durban. This was where she discovered her love for poetry and the performative arts. She started writing poetry since the age of 15. In a heartfelt moment, her first performance of her art was at her grandmother’s funeral. In 2005 she then joined the Young Basadzi Women of Poetry. She would also host monthly poetry events which she dubbed the 1st Word Sessions at the Bat Centre in Durban. At the same time, she was working odd jobs as a waitress and hairdresser to make ends meet.
Career
Busiswa was discovered by CEO of Kalawa Records, Oskido. She was working on her poetry with Sir Bubzin at the time. Oskido then suggested Busiswa work with Dj Zinhle on My Name is Busiswa. The song became an instant hit! After this, she moved to Johannesburg to pursue her career under Kalawa Jamzee records. This led to another smash hit yet again in the form of Ngoku. This song led to many performances and extensive airplay for Busiswa.
In 2017 she announced the release of her album Highly Flavoured. Highly Favoured featured DJ Maphorisa, Busi N, Lando, Yasirah, Moozlie, Nokwazi, DJ Toxic, DJ Athie and Da Fre. It went on to be nominated for South African Music Awards for Best Kwaito Album and for Best female artist. In 2018 she released her second album, Summer Life under her own company, Busiswa Entertainment. She then received nominations at the 25th South African Music Awards under the Best Dance Album and Best Female Categories.
As a teacher and mentor, Busiswa facilitates children’s workshops at Art for Humanity (AFH.) She is a teacher and mentor. Assisting in guiding the children to appreciate visual arts and poetry. She also works closely with the Department of Education in Umlazi District. It serves to foster youth development and education. There, she tutors the young people on public speaking, performance poetry and debating.
She also worked with the mega-star Beyonce in 2019 for the lion king sound track, The Lion King: The Gift. The sound track was an A list affair from both Africa and America. The A listers include megastars such as Donald Glover, Eric Andre, Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, John Oliver and Billy Eichner. Also on that list are Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly.

Busiswa has had a rather tough time with love. Everything seemed to be going well between her and then baby daddy Dj Kaygee. This was until the fated day, after the couple had broken up and she was with her friend @MarcWorldWide. She was finally exposing the alleged abuse in her relationship with Kaygee.
Kaygee allegedly burst into the apartment unannounced and uninvited. This resulted in him assaulting both of them and damaging @MarcWorldWide’s car during the scuffle. Kaygee denied ever assaulting Busiswa but did own up to assaulting her friend. He claims that he caught Busiswa and her friend in a rather compromising position. Busiswa, in all her graciousness hit back with “Being famous can be really exhausting sometimes.”

In her interview with TshisaLIVE she says she is grateful to Oskido and her Kalawa family. She adds that “Fortunately they weren’t looking for a pop star.
