Bhekisizwe Mahlawe went against what his family wished for him when he pursued a career in acting. However, he tried to make them happy by enrolling for a teaching degree as they wanted even though he quit six months into the programme. Calvin from Durban Gen is the CEO of two companies, a media company and a clothing line.
Bhekisizwe is famously known for his current role as Nurse Calvin Gumede on Durban Gen. Before that; fans knew him for his part in Generations: The Legacy as Spororo. Despite that not being the career path his family wanted for him, the actor is doing well for himself in the industry with the help of the businesses he owns.
In 2020 Bhekisizwe Mahlawe started his media company called BRT media Company. The company focuses on giving services at roadshows, films, drama workshops, and other festivals. His company was involved in many communities and educational shows in schools all over South Africa.
On top of the media company, Bhekisizwe also owns a clothing line and a fragrance line that trades under the name Umzim cool clothing and fragrances. Under his clothing, the actor sells tracksuits, T-shirts and sweaters. He only recently started the fragrance line with the amber floral scent. Many of his workmates and cast members on Durban Gen have supported the actor, including Meshack Mavuso, who plays Dr Thabo Dlamini and Tshidi Makitle, who plays nurse Phumeza.

Bhekisizwe Mahlawe’s education and acting career
Bhekisizwe grew up in uMzimkhulu township, where he derives the name of his company. The entertainer did not further his studies past Matric because what he wanted for himself was different from what his family wanted. After six months, the actor enrolled for a teaching degree, which he later dropped to pursue acting as a career. However, his beginning in the industry was not as rosy as he might have wanted. After some time not getting any work, he started landing roles.
After his first job acting, he quit his job in Proteas Hotel and moved to Johannesburg. His family only learned that he had left school after seeing him on TV on eKasi: Our Stories, so he came clean. He later went on to land roles in Soul City, Sokhulu and Partners, Rhythm City, Shreds and Dreams and Promise. He later landed the role of Spororo on Generations: The Legacy before landing his current role on Durban Gen. The actor is estimated to be worth a total of $500 000 with most of his earnings coming from his acting gigs and businesses.
