Yonda Thomas plays Lelethu on Generations

Yonda Thomas who plays Lelethu on Generations The Legacy sang Amanikiniki in a Nelson Mandela impression in a video that has gone viral. Yonda Thomas is hot property right now and he is currently killing his roles on Generations as Lelethu and on Redemption as officer Sabelo.

The actor is also known for his great Madiba impression.

He recently sat down with the MetroFM breakfast team to have a conversation about everything including his career, his take on relationships and well his incredible impression of the late great Nelson Mandela.

In case you didn’t know, Thomas played the legendary Rolihlahla Mandela on Discovery Channel’s six-part series called Madiba.

He said he was so excited to play the struggle icon and he wanted to connect to him so much that he changed his voice to sound like him and read up on the icon.

In the series, Yonda plays the young Madiba and his journey as a young man from Qunu. He says he decided to play the role like a normal dude growing up in the Eastern Cape.

The older version of Madiba on the series was played by Laurence Fishburne who played the role of Morphius on the Matrix.

Yonda said that he felt some pressure when he first met Laurence and he says Laurance asked him to pitch Madiba to him and said that he will take it from there.

The team at MetroFM wanted to hear just how good Thomas is at impersonating Tata, and they made him do it in the most awkward situation, singing songs that Madiba would never do.

The actor mentioned that he hadn’t done the impersonation in years, which is understandable, because he played Madiba in 2017.

Mo Flava played the song called Amanikiniki by MFR Souls featuring Kamo Mphela.
Thomas rose to the occasion and delivered the most accurate impression of Nelson Mandela on an Amapiano song.

He said he was doing an impression on him after he left Robben Island, but of course, he was joking because as we all know Tata has sounded the same for a long time.

Yonda is not the only one who is attracted to the way Rholihlahla spoke. Tata had a very unique voice and many celebrities loved to impersonate him.

Yonda is currently starring as a cop in the BET telenovela, redemption, which he says he is very excited about.
