Heartfelt Grief: Nelli Tembe's Father Speaks Out on AKA's Passing

Famous rapper AKA signed a deal with Reebok, which led to the famous sneaker shoe range, but the deal did not last as both parties expected. During its early days, sneAKA became popular, and it’s clear that Reebok made a lot out of the deal. Firstly, it seemed as if everything was going according to plan until news broke out that AKA and Reebok had parted ways. The relationship became sour, and they both conflicted in their statement, which bred so much confusion among fans.

A few months later, AKA announced on his Twitter account that he did not receive any cents, which did not settle well with Reebok management. The management believed that they had owned all their contractual obligations. They demanded AKA to clarify issues better, but the hip-hop star never seemed to be bothered. Many fans sided with him and called Reebok exploiters asking AKA to sue them. Two years after the fallout, more details of the deal are coming out, and it’s a shame that AKA pocketed over R3 million from the wholesale.

AKA pocketed R3 million from the famous Sneaker deal with Reebok

After two years of fans believing that AKA did not get any cent from the whole deal, the All eyes on me hitmaker clarified the issue leaving many fans disappointed. AKA said that fans misunderstood what he had said a few years ago. He said he did not get a cent only from the sneaker but not from the deal. AKA said that Reebok paid him around R140k per month for around two years. What a tremendous amount of money and this is a shame, given that fans had been feeling sorry for him while he pocketed a total of R3 million from the whole deal.

I said I didn’t get a cent from the sneaker, not from the deal. I was paid 120k every month for nearly two years I think … hope that clears it up for you. https://t.co/M8BNzEKRIx

What Reebok said of the sneaker deal with AKA after the fallout

After a fan praised the seaAKA on social media, AKA responded to the tweet saying

Can you believe they didn’t pay me a single cent for this? … not one cent.

This message upset Reebok, and they responded by saying

In October 2019, we executed a successful launch of the Reebok SneAKA. Upon entering into the relationship, both parties were happy with the agreement, and the terms of the launch were not disputed.

Reebok met all of our contractual obligations related to the launch. Earlier this year, Reebok communicated with AKA and his management that due to shifting in strategy, we would not be able to renew his contract as an ambassador for the brand,” the statement reads.

Reebok is thus very disappointed to be learning of the issues raised on social media, as we believed the relationship to still be on a strong footing to negotiate potential future deals,
