Producer and writer Chris Q Radebe wrote a heartfelt letter to Velile Makhoba, the actress from Gomora, on Instagram. She is the next big thing, according to the storyteller.
This is how the letter read, “When Velile says: “Asithathe isithombe,” cancel all your appointments. It doesn’t mean what you think it means. She was born with a few problems that she can’t do anything about. First, she’s a 2000, perhaps the biggest of her problems, because there’s no direction, order, structure, foundation, etc,” chris wrote.
He continued, “Secondly, uyibhinca, which means at any time, she can break into song, sengisho ingoma yesiZulu, avele asine, completely unprovoked and without warning, regardless of the place or the occasion. And lastly, she shares my special condition of getting drunk just by looking at alcohol.”
“”Yilenhlobo ekuphuza abanye, kudakwe yona.” In his words, he says he remembers the first day he was introduced to her. “What an incredible talent, though! Oh my goodness! I remember the first time I was introduced to her. It was with a video sent to me by Kutlwano Ditsele while he was doing Shaka Ilembe auditions in Durban. He sent the video without a message. And as soon as I pressed play, I knew exactly what the message was.
I watched the first 5 seconds of her performance and replied: “Whatever the question is, my answer is yes.” And now it’s three yeses from me. This young lady is the Leo DiCaprio to my Martin Scorsese, the Denzel Washington to my Tony Scott, and I can hardly wait for our next project.” “@velilemakhoba “Please stay as grounded as you are, as authentic as you are, as humble, respectful, and, more importantly, as happy as you are.” “You have an innate gift that no one can take away from you, and I know the country is in for a treat.”
