Celebrated actor Cebolenkosi Mthembu, best known for his on-screen character on Mzansi’s most watched drama series Uzalo as Detective Nyawo. The celebrated character we all love to hate took to social media to celebrate his big win in the recently held Comrades Marathon. Undoubtedly, he has been toping trends of late after conquering the Comrades Marathon. He joined the marathon in 2018 and is not holding back.
Mthembu has it that despite having several woes during his run, he was grateful to have finished the race. In the mix of things, Uzalo viewers have since taken to social media to congratulate Cebolenkosi on the significant achievement.
It took Mthembu 11 hours to complete the marathon. However, the rumour mill has revealed that this was not his preferred time. Cebolenkosi is grateful because he barely trained this year. The bubbly actor blamed Lockdown for his woes. At some point, he was forced out of Uzalo after he tested positive for COVID, but he later bounced back.
“Marathons are not for the fain-hearted. I had so many stops this time compared to other years. Perhaps not having enough time to train was the reason.”
Mthembu revealed that he had to soldier on despite hearing that one of the runners had died while participating in the annual marathon.
Cebolenkosi also saw a lot of runners who were struggling to finish the marathon. He said these could have discouraged him, but he pushed through.
“This marathon is not easy. What I noticed is that most of the runners were struggling. The two-year gap might be the reason most of the found it difficult to finish.”

The actor has it that speaking big and complicated English words instead of everyday English is his way of trying to distinguish himself from other characters.
“But I make sure that even as someone who is supporting, I leave my mark each time I have to speak. The words I use, most of them are there in the script. But they are not necessary as they can be simplified.”
