Michelle Botes left the television soapies Isidingo and disappeared off the radar. She played the character of Cherel de Villiers Haines for over a decade. On Isidingo, she was a villain and bloody murderer who would do anything to achieve her goals. As a testament to her skills, she bagged two awards at the annual Avanti Awards for her role on Isidingo. However, she later bowed down from Isidingo as she wanted a break to rediscover herself before continuing on her journey as an actress.
In her interview with News24, she said:
I left the industry for a while and isolated myself. I didn’t want to act for a long time. I was a bit burnt out and the next thing for me was not to act any part. That was my challenge after being in so many parts. It was the real challenge because l have had been acting since I was 19/20 and then in my fifties suddenly there was no point where l was just like ‘who am l even’

Legacy is a classy, first-of-its-kind South African telenovela set in the fast lane world of investment billionaires and centres on the Price family. At pivot, it is a story about a family at war with itself.
On Legacy, she is playing Angelique, a matriarch of the Price family. She is slaying her role to excellency on Legacy, and she has been praised for her role by Mzansi.

Michelle Botes on being an academic genius
The actress is the actual definition of beauty with brains. Besides being a phenomenal actress, she is also an educational intellectual with a degree and diploma to show for it. Michelle Botes did her high school in Cape Town and then registered for tertiary education at the University of Stellenbosch, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in speech and drama. After graduation, she pursued a Diploma in Education at the University of Cape Town.
