Double Delight: Royal AM FC celebrates double wins, the man of the match award money raged Mzansi football supporters
A perfect start for MaMhkize’s Royal AM FC soccer teams, who won with a 1- 0 score line vs Kaizer Chiefs (men) and Coal City Wizards Ladies FC (women). The Royal AM men’s team continued from where they started last season and defeated Kaizer Chiefs at home (Chatsworth Stadium) in the first match of the current campaign. In the 2020/2022 season, Royal AM FC finished third in the Dstv Premier league, standing a position enough to take them to CAF Confederation Cup group stages ahead of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Despite the brown envelope in the pitch drama where the Royal AM senior management allegedly stormed the pitch with bonus payments, the team moved on and put on an excellent season. Along their fruitful journey, Royal AM put Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates to the sword and struggled in the last five games of the season.
Royal AM Ladies
After the Banyana Banyana heroics in winning the Women Africa Cup of Nations, the Royal AM President and businesswoman MaMkhize announced the launch of the Royal AM Ladies Club. Shauwn Mkhize also announced Tamia Mpisane, her daughter-in-law, as the new chairperson of the Royal AM women’s outfit, the same position her husband Andile holds in the men’s management team.
Royal AM FC ladies kick off their season positively; they defeated Coal City Wizards Ladies FC away from home in a 1-0 victory. Despite the win and emphatic performances from both teams during the match, the man of the match award money caught the fans’ eye. Royal AM forward Pesa received the man of the match during their win against Coal City Wizards Ladies FC and walked away with R 2000. Reward money of R 2000 for the man of the match performance was labelled as an insult to women’s football compared to R9 000 received by men.
Soccer fans question the continued discrimination against women’s football.
“We still have a long way to go; such disparities with men’s football are uncalled for. Can someone explain the difference in MOM prize money?”
