Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson is slowly but surely making waves in the television industry. Most of her work is behind the scenes. From a distant perspective, one can assume she’s being groomed to take over one day.
She is the daughter of Connie Ferguson and Connie’s ex-husband Neo Matsunyane. Her stepfather was the late Shona Ferguson, and he treated her as her own. Hence Lesedi has two surnames, one from her biological dad and one from her stepdad. She works inside the family business. Ferguson Films is the name of the family business, and they are telling gripping stories.

Her biological father, Neo Matsunyane, is an actor, voice-over artist and director. Lesedi grew up watching her mother slay her role on the SABC 1 soapie Generations as Karabo Moroka. When Lesedi was growing up, she also watched her late stepfather Shona Ferguson on TV.
When a profession is around a person so much, it almost seems hereditary. Seeing all those lights and cameras and the family lifestyle drew Lesedi to the industry.
Casting Director The Queen
In the Ferguson, Films show The Queen, Lesedi works as a casting director. She is the one who announced the show and is looking for IsiZulu fluent-speaking young men. The roles were that of Brutus’s sons.
Lesedi also led the pack, breathing fire online, protecting The Queen. A few months ago, there was a rumour the show was being discontinued. It was fake news, and Lesedi didn’t miss the opportunity to call out the haters.
Kings of Jo’burg
Season 2 of Kings of Jo’burg is currently being filmed. Lesedi is up and down on set, getting involved in every production aspect. We can see she is learning the nitty-gritty of creating a show.
Continuing legacy
She is working towards continuing the legacy of her family business. At the rate she is going, Lesedi might be the company’s CEO one day.
