In Pictures, A classic gangster funeral as Christopher Jaftha ‘Mike’ bids farewell to Umbuso.
In recent weeks Umbuso fans have seen Mike as MaE’s right-hand man who would lay down his life to protect the family. Mike had proved that he was in love with Lihle, his boss’ daughter when he restrained himself from killing her abusive husband at her order. However, despite being a good man, his profession found a way to catch up with him in the end.
After driving Mothusi out of town, Mike actively pursued a relationship with Lihle, and MaE gave his blessing. They were even talking about marriage, but Mike wanted to do it after he had found Lihle’s mother’s killer. He kept his promise and uncovered the truth about the murder committed by Samora. However, on his way to tell Lihle, Caeser’s people attacked him and left him dead in a seated position for his boss to find.
After his death, Mike was given a befitting send-off worth of the gangster that he was leaving Lihle to deal with the heartbreak his death caused her. She did not eat for several days, refusing any offer for food and visitors as she mourned her lover and even blamed herself for his death as he was on a mission to fulfil her wish.
Actor Christopher Jaftha bids farewell to Umbuso
In the wake of the death of his on-screen character Mike, Christopher Jaftha has taken to his Instagram to share his last words to the production crew. He made it into a funny post where he asked what would happen to Lihle after so much trauma. He also jokes that he feels sorry for anyone who will cross MaE’s path for vengeance and gave a quote that said if someone lived by the sword, they die by one.
Many of his fellow co-stars and cast mates on Umbuso were in his comment section teasing him. For example, Keke Mphuthi, who plays Caeser, laughed the caption off but gave props to Mike for putting on a good fight. Kwanele Mthethwa also bid farewell to her on-screen lover as she jokingly mourned for Lihle’s Slugger
