Zahara says that she lost six of her South African Music Awards when someone broke into her house in Ruimsig Roodepoort in Johannesburg. Reports claim that Zahara was away for the Easter holidays when the crime happened.
Zahara has opened a case with the police, it’s said that she doesn’t care how her trophies are returned as long as she gets them back.
Zahara shot to fame after the success of her album Loliwe in 2011. Her talent is undisputed. She has won the award for Bestselling Album, best newcomer, best female artist of the year and many more.
Zahara wants her awards back. The awards were proudly placed on a Z shaped stand built for them by Zahara.
The Z shape is the first letter of her name.
It is said that Zahara is crushed because those awards were her pride and joy.
The South African Music Awards spokesperson Lesley Mofokeng expressed sadness at Zahara’s loss and wished her well with the house that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
Mofokeng acknowledged how important and valuable these awards are to Zahara. He said they were very proud to be associated with an artist of Zahara’s calibre.
According to Drum Magazine Zahara says she came back on the 21st of April from her Easter Holidays to find that her awards were missing from her customised stand. Zahara says there was no break-in, that the intruder took only her awards and that everything else was still intact in her house.
According to Zaharas’ Gardner who has been working for her for more than 10 years, he says when he came in he saw the door slightly opened and just closed it without going in to inspect the house.
Zahara says there has never been a break-in in her house for ten years and that the estate is very safe. She says she doesn’t suspect anyone at this point.
Zahara had a falling out with her neighbour in 2020. The neighbour reported Zahara for breaking the level 3 lockdown regulations in 2020. She says the neighbour installed invasive cameras in his home that faced her house and that she reported that matter and the cameras were then placed correctly.
“I’m not saying it’s him, but I’m saying there was no break-in at the complex. He has never liked me, and he has never been happy with my presence on the estate.” The songstress allegedly said to the publication.
Zahara has opened a case with the Honeydew police station and the matter is currently under investigation.
