Watch Former Scandal actor ‘Mangi’ Kagiso Modupe wins big at Idyllwild Film Festival
Kagiso Modupe became a household name when he landed his most famous role in Scandal as Mangi. The actor made his debut in 2005 and was on the show until 2018, when he made his exit. Since then, Kagiso has been working as a producer at Bakwena Productions, a company he owns with his wife. Their company is the brains behind the nationally recognized movie Losing Lerato and Thando.
Kagiso took to his Instagram to share with the world that his latest project has won four Awards at Idyllwild Film Festival. The film was nominated for seven awards at the awards ceremony and won four. Thando won Best Feature Film, Kagiso took the Best Director award in a feature Film, Zikhona Bali won Vanguard Actress for her role as Thando in the movie, and Thando won Best of Festival Award.

Bakwena productions is not new to scooping these international Awards at all. At the same award ceremony a few years ago, Losing Lerato scooped all six awards. The film where Kagiso took on the lead role and played alongside his daughter, who took on the title character, Lerato. They both received Best actor awards, with Tshimollo’s award being a Best Child performance award.

Thando was released on the 8th of March and is showing in Cinemas. The movie is about Thando, who tries to take her life because of bullying at school. Zikhona Bali takes on the title character of Thando, the bullying victim, while House of Zwide actress Gaisang Noge takes on the role of the bully. This movie addresses the issue close to many people’s hearts and has received raving reviews from many critics.
Kagiso Modupe is proud of his work and team in putting together a great production. Many of his fans miss seeing him on the small screen; they support his work as a producer and a director. So a career as an actor is not written off entirely, and he is just focusing more on his production company. He was recently featured in Nqobile, playing the role of Simo in 2021.
