Actress Phophi Mudau who plays the businesswoman Cindy Khuzwayo on Skeem Saam, is now officially a traditional healer. Phophi told Daily Sun that her break from the shooting was due to her answering her calling. Training to become a fully-fledged traditional healer takes a lot of time and effort, so it’s never easy on anyone. People who are healers describe the initiation process as emotionally and mentally daunting.
Like many people, she had to leave her job and focus on her gift of healing people. Nobody quite expected her Skeem Saam departure, and nobody reported why she suddenly left the show.
How she left Skeem Sam
Cindy’s character was quarrelling with the co-owner of Café Rovhuwa very frequently. Due to her inability to fight Lehasa all the time, she distanced herself from the business’s daily operations. Cindy later gave away all her shares to the staff of the café. Her primary focus was on the business she was running on the side of her publishing company.
Return to the screen
Since the actress has finished her course, she can now return to her everyday life, including going back to work. Unlike some healers, who accept gifts then no longer practice, the actress will be doing both jobs.
Phophi has one lesson she learned throughout the process of being a healer. If a person has a calling, they should accept it as soon as possible so that they can move forward with their lives as quickly as possible. She took a year to become a healer, some people take longer, and some take a shorter time.
Other celebrities who are traditional healers
Celebrities like Latoya Makhene, Boity Thulo, Kelly Khumalo, Dawn Thandeka King, Bongani Masondo, Zola Hashatsi, Zodwa Wabantu and Masechaba Ndlovu, to name a few, are also traditional healers.
Rise of celebs in the healing space
Back then, the craft of being a traditional healer was associated with dirt and impurity, this was due to the sanctions apartheid placed on traditional healers. After years of that mental slavery, it became more acceptable in black society. Today, more and more celebrities are becoming traditional healers and it makes ordinary people feel a bit okay with accepting their gifts.
