The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just delivered a finishing blow to Zimbabwe Football Association. CAF has just informed ZIFA that they will no longer be allowed to use local stadiums for international matches.
The development doesn’c come as a surprise as a warning had already been made when a woman died at the National Sports Stadium while battling to enter the stadium when Zimbabwe and Congo were playing. CAF issued a letter condemning the incident.

The incident sparked an inspection of all stadiums in the country by CAF. The inspection was conducted in November 2019 and the report about the inspection was circulated on 1 December 2019.
ZIFA issued a circular showing their discontent with the decision by CAF as they say takes away our sovereignty as a country. The decision simply means Zimbabwe have to find a country they call home in football.
ZIFA is most likely to choose South Africa as the home country as it offers more opportunitites. South Africa is home to more than 2 million Zimbabweans and it blooming economy provides advertising value for stakeholders who might be interested in partnering ZIFA.

The ban might not have come naturally. There are rumours that the ban was facilitated by former ZIFA President and the President of COSAFA Philip Chiyangwa. Chiyangwa is seen in Africa as the king maker of African Football. His birthday celebrations that were attended by the current FIFA President Gianni Infantino who used the occasion to beef up support and to campaign for his favourite CAF aspiring president Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar. Chiyangwa played an active role in facilitating that Ahmad wins the race tightly contested by long serving former CAF President Issa Hayatou.
