Watch: “A gesture of true love,” as young children mob Uzalo actor Nkunzi’s car in the streets of KwaMashu.
Actor Masoja Msiza who plays the lead role of Nkunzi on SABC 1 soap opera Uzalo, is the fans favourite and has become a household name. Due to Uzalo popularity, the cast members have experienced love and appreciation from their legion of fans. Recently after shooting Uzalo scenes, Masoja Msiza was mobbed by a cheerful group of children who shouted his name on top of their voices as he slowly drove in the streets of KwaMashu.

Overwhelmed by the support, Masoja posted a short video clip recorded inside his car while a group of kids shouted his stage name.
Nkunzi on Uzalo
Famous for his trademark cold voice, the Nkunzi character is a gang leader who portrays an outward image of a businessman in KwaMashu. The leader of the Mhlongo family, Nkunzi, was married to MaNgcobo and Hlengiwe (MaMlambo); he had a son Sbonelo with Gabisile.
He uses his business to clean his dirty money; Nkunzi has crooked policeman Nyawo on his payroll hence avoiding jail.
Nkunzi’s raise to fame on Uzalo
Arguably the most popular cast member on Uzalo, Nkunzi’s street creed role was when he put his enemies to the sword and all those who crossed his path. He proved to be a family man when choosing Lindiwe over the car hijacking cartel.
On 25 September 2018, Nkunzi was involved in a historic viewership record-breaking episode that racked in 10.25 million viewers. While Nkunzi was secretly marrying MaMlambo, gun-wielding MaNgcobo stormed the ceremony and coercing him to choose who he would marry between her and her former best friend-turned love rival. Nkunzi married both women to get into a polygamous marriage.
