In Pictures: Gomora actor Bongani is a businessman in real life, net worth revealed.
Actor Thulani Mtsweni plays the role of Bongani on Gomora. The Bongani character is a divorced father of two, Shisanyama owner who has a relationship with Zodwa. Clad in his beard trademark and financial strength to support Zodwa, Bongani is nicknamed Bongani wama Grocery (translated to grocery provider). The Bongani role comes naturally to Thulani Mtseweni as he also owns a Shisanyama in real life.
The provider who takes care of Mzozozo and her children, Bongani’s weakness, is abandoning Zodwa when he is needed the most.
Despite being a respected businessman within the Gomora community, Bongani has a loud mouth which often gets him in trouble. Just for a few rands, Bongani rants about Thathi’s relationship with Melusi Dlamini to Phumlani.
Bongani’s battle to keep Zodwa encountered resistance from her ex, Don, who sent thugs Sdumo and Brains to attack his family to scare Bongani and prove his weakness.
Thulani Mtsweni’s acting journey has been rough; disappointments and discrimination placed him on the sidelines for a long time. He was denied a chance in television filming and spent much of his career working with University student producers to get exposure. Thulani was handed his television breakthrough on Isidingo, where he played the role of ‘Shadrack Bhekiziswe Sibiya’. He joined the Isibaya cast, where he played the role of ‘Mpihlangene Zungu’, the younger brother of Mpiyakhe Zungu.
Despite having a tough career start, Mtsweni’s Gomora role as Bongani paved a leeway for corporate advertising and brand ambassadorial deals.
