MDC Alliance declared war on the Zanu PF government yesterday when they carried out their press conference soon after the announcement that four of their MPs had been recalled.
MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti, “We have given dialogue a chance and we have also given peace a chance. We take this as a declaration of war.”
The Zanu PF government is known to use a heavy hand when dealing with protesters. Six people were killed in January 2019 whilst a dozen others were raped by the security forces deployed by the government to quell protests that gripped the country. The heavy handed response was condemned internationally and the government promised to bring the perpetrators to book but never did. Earlier on in August 2018, protesters died from bullet wounds in Harare central business district when the government deployed the army to stop protesters who were demanding the release of July 2018 presidential elections. The government promised to take action on the army killings but never did.
