Lalela Mswane has crowded the second runner up on the Miss Universe beauty pageant. When she arrived in S.A, she was greeted by South Africans young and old, male and female, black and white. The pageant queen was emotional with the reception at the airport, especially with the young girls wearing tiaras and sashes in her honour. Lalela, whose name means ‘ listen ‘, could not contain her tears, seeing that she’s inspired so many people on her turbulent journey to winning her crown. In 2020, the South African beauty Zozibini Tunzi won the Ms Universe title and was the world’s longest-reigning queen, and Lalela got so close.
The drama surrounds Lalela Mswane
Israel is currently at a precarious place politically, and South Africa is opposed to its alleged occupation of Palestine’s territory. The government withdrew its support for the Miss South African organisation. Lalela was urged not to attend the pageant, but she didn’t. She followed her instincts and dreams and chased the title. Despite facing a lot of backlash for not listening to her country, she said the competition had nothing to do with politics. Following her intuition did her more good than harm as she’s currently the Miss Universe second runner up. She was reduced to tears as journalists questioned her decision to attend the pageant in Israel, despite the host country being accused of human rights violations against Palestinians.
