Nothando Ngcobo plays the dual role of Hlelo on SABC 1 soapie Uzalo and Prudence Thabethe on Lingashoni. On Uzalo, Hlelo was rescued from an abusive marriage by Gabisile, a favour she returned after she saved her from the jaws of death.
The Hlelo character is a reckless mother jailed for baby dumping after dumping her newly born baby Smangaliso role played by Kwandokuhle Phakamani. The baby dumping act saw Hlelo castigated by Uzalo fans for such a hideous act. Fortunately, her baby got picked up by MaMlambo, who kept the baby safe and later ran into problems with the long arm of the law for kidnapping the baby.
Uzalo fans crush on Nothando for her beauty and stature; she was quickly named the soapie babe of the season. Hlelo is a natural beauty without makeup in real life; she shocked Mzansi when she uploaded her pictures without makeup, leaving many drooling.

‘I spend most of my time in my natural skin; I don’t have that edge for makeup. The Hlelo role barely requires me to wear makeup; the producers allowed me to be comfortable in my natural African skin.’
The 26 years old actress was born in and grew up in Hammarsdale, a township in Mpumalanga, before moving to Joburg for studies. She holds a Degree in Media and Creative Arts from the University of Johannesburg.
On Uzalo, Hlelo is going to be rescued from jail and united with her son Smangaliso. Under the watchful eye of Gabisile and social workers, Hlelo is set to pull a shocker and return to her old habits of alcohol abuse. She will lose her baby to foster care along with the storyline.
