We can all agree Uzalo hasn’t been the same without him on our screens. In the wake of Gabisile shocking return on Uzalo, rumour had it that Siyabonga Shibe, who played Qhabanga, would also be returning. Could he be making his much talked about return anytime soon?
The two exited Uzalo after it was reported that they had a fallout with the showrunners. However, the drama series later indicated that the two actors were off the hook on mutual agreement.
The controversial pastor left KwaMashu with the guilt of killing his wife, Gabisile. Gabisile death came in the backdrop of her confession that she killed Khehla and his mother, Nomcebo. However, it seems as if Uzalo played us. Qhabanga didn’t know Gabisile didn’t die in the river where he threw her into.
Nzuza played Khehla whilst Nombulelo Mhlongo played the onscreen character of Nomcebo. The two were part of the mass exodus of Uzalo’s cast. Some faces that dumped the drama series include Dawn Thadeka King, who left the drama series for DiepCity.
The return of Gabisile saw Qhabanga trending. However, the actor weighed into the matter and cleared the air that he didn’t see himself making a shocking return to Uzalo.
Siyabonga Shibe ‘Qhabanga’ rubishes Uzalo return
Even though he was nominated in the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards 2021 for the Best Actor Award for his character on Uzalo, the actor insisted he was not coming back. However, he was nominated alongside Wiseman Mncube, Nzuza and Mavuso Magabane.
“I’m grateful for the nomination, but I will never play Qhabanga again,” said Shibe.
The actor indicated that he was in a good book with Stained Glass as he is still working for the production company.
“I act on The Wife show, which Stained Glass produces. I’m shooting for the film in Inanda, and I’m swamped and Uzalo is not on the list,” he said.
Rumour had it that the actor was shown the exit door after he complained about being paid peanuts. In recent months Uzalo has been didn’t with salary woes that have spilt into the media.
However, Shibe didn’t confirm that was the reason behind his exit. Up to now, little is known about his exit, and it seems as if there is more to it than what we thought.
“It was time for me to leave. Everything has its time,” said Shibe.
About the nomination, he said it showed his work was recognised.
“Winning will come as a bonus, and being nominated is a lot and big,” he said.
