Uzalo’s Cebolenkosi Mthembu returns to work after getting his voice back
A few months ago Cebolenkosi Mthembu made all sorts of headlines which left Mzansi fingers crossed after it was reported that the star actor’s career was hanging on a thread after he suddenly lost his voice.
It seems as if our prayers have been answered. Yes, his voice is back and it’s business as usual. Cebolenkosi Mthembu plays Captain Nyawo on Mzansi’s hit soapie Uzalo. The on-screen KwaMashu Captain was relieved of his duties by the showrunners after he lost his voice to Covid-19.
However, it did not only affect his acting career but also posed a threat to his presenting career at Vibe FM. Well, the good news is the star actor has returned for season 7 shooting.
“I was starting to think that maybe my ancestors are angry or they have turned their backs on me. But now it’s clear that it was just the medical condition,” he said.
“I have started shooting. Although my voice is not fully recovered, it is better than before. I’m also going back to radio on Saturday,” said Cebolenkosi.
He did indicate that he had given up on his dreams after he failed to recover his voice of late.
“I went back to consult a doctor, but he gave me something for Covid. I have tried drinking honey and Vitamin C supplements, but nothing is working,” he revealed last month.

However, the concoction finally worked. It seems up he will be bolstering the already fired-up cast for season 7. From bringing back old guards to bolster its cast to adding multi-millionaire Shauwn Mkhize. It seems as if Uzalo is not holding back. In the wake of these additions to the cast, Uzalo has also added Mbali Maphumulo.
Mbali Maphumulo is a South African actress who also happens to be the wife of actor Dumisani Mbebe. The seasoned actress also doubles as a singer and dancer.
It seems as if this is her rebirth to small screens after being off for years. Maphumulo is best known for her stellar performances as Amira Mokoena, a whimsical songwriter living in a fantasy world, in the e.tv drama series 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, from 2010-2012.
She will be playing Wenzile Nhlapo on the Mzansi hit soapie Uzalo. According to an insider source, the actress has already joined the cast for shooting.
