The Black Leopards striker, Ovidy Karuru‘s sister, Charity, is also gifted with a soccer talent. Indeed, the soccer gift runs in the Karuru family as all 4 siblings are equally good at football. We caught up with Charity Karuru and she gladly agreed to a brief interview. Check out her reponses to our questions;
Qsn: Where and when was Charity Karuru born?
Ans: I was born on the 20th of October 1994 in the city of Masvingo, Zimbabwe
Qsn: Are you related to Ovidy Karuru?
Ans: Yes, Ovidy is my elder brother. In a family of 4, the first born is Obert, Ovidy is the 2nd born, Obvious is the third born and I am the last born and the only girl. All four of us play soccer very well.
Qsn: Which schools did you attend?
Ans: I graduated from the Hubei University of Technology in China. Previously, i had attended Midlands State University and Victoria High School, Rufaro and Mucheke High School for my ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. I did the whole of my primary school at Don Bosco primary school also in the city of Masvingo.
Qsn: When did you start playing football and which teams have you played for so far?
Ans: I started playing soccer at the age of 9 when I was in grade 3. The academy nurtured my football talent til grade 7. From form 1 to form 6 I played for Masvingo Queens. I have also played for the Zimbabwean national under 20 team. When i briefly studied at the Midlands State University(MSU), i joined the military side, Chapungu Queens. Afterwards, i went to China and played for Hubei University of Technology in Wuhan, China.
Qsn: Who are you currently dating?
Ans: At the moment, I’m not dating anyone, I’m single.
Qsn: People believe you are a fashion killer & trend setter. Is that true?
Ans: Definitely, I’m a different person so i dress differently and I got my own style. I own @she_kaycfashion so best believe I’m a also a fashion star.
Qsn: People criticize you for being a female soccer player & dressing differently. How do you react to that?
Ans: I love myself and I enjoy my life, so i simply ignore people. Society cannot dictate a person’s lifestyle, my sense of fashion & lifestyle is not governed by social norms. It’s my life so i choose to live it my way, people are probably backwards, envious or jealous. Either way, i do not care about what people say or think about me. I stay in my lane & focus on my amazing life.
Despite being a sister to a celebrity, Charity uses her own might to achieve her goals. Ovidy Karuru is proud of his baby sister who has achieved a lot for herself. He is doing well at Black Leopards FC in the South African PSL.
Evidently, Charity Karuru advocates for women rights and equality. As the most fashion concious person in Masvingo, she is fast becoming a fashion icon in Zimbabwe. Charity Karuru is a quiet person, but her distaste for GBV and glass ceiling is enormous. We wish her well in all her endeavours.
