Civil servant’s Covid-19 allowances extended
The Government of Zimbabwe has extended the payment of a USD$75 Covid-19 allowances for civil servants. The amount is to be paid in Zimbabwe dollars at the prevailing rate.
This allowance has been greatly assisting many civil servants during this pandemic. The economy of Zimbabwe has suffered many set backs due to the lockdowns. As a way of cushioning the Civilians who make up a major part of the economy, the government introduced these allowances.
However, Zimbabwe has a very high unemployment rate of more than 90%. The majority of the population is part of the informal sector. These disturbing statistics leave the greater part of the economically active seeking such cushioning allowances. Most have resorted to working in South Africa as seen by masses struggling at the Beitbridge boarder post days ago.
