Full Statement by Hon Kazembe Kazembe after Covid-19 National Lockdown non-compliance
The Minister of Home Affairs and cultural Heritage, Hon Kazembe Kazembe addressed the nation after the level 4 Covid-19 National lockdown non-compliance by citizens. It has only been two days since the lockdown started and a lot of havoc has occurred. Recently a ZRP police officer was in trouble for allegedly assaulting a baby while enforcing the lockdown regulations. To date, vendors are mushrooming back in the streets and market places despite the restrictions put in place. With concern, Hon Kazembe Kazembe speaks:
“My Ministry is concerned with bars, night clubs, restaurants, and other business entities who are operating yet according to Statutory Instrument 10 of 2021, these are banned. I have directed the Commissioner General of Police to ensure that the law takes its course on any individual, syndicate or business entity contravening COVID-19 regulations.
There is no need for anyone to grandstand. I am equally disturbed by some shopping centres in some areas in the country which are now known for wild parties, beer drinking binges and all sorts of illegalities. This should stop forthwith.Police officers will move around all suburbs, shopping centres and even check houses to account for transgressions against covid regulations and other criminal activities.

The National lockdown started on the 5th of January 2021 and is set on level 4 for 30 days. As most Zimbabweans rely on informal trading, these restrictions are somehow a hard pill to swallow. In a bid to feed their families, these traders are violating the regulations in turn failing to curb the virus. Covid-19 virus cases are on the rise and hospitals are over crowding. Frontline workers on the other hand are putting their tools down as they are working with scarce resources which exposes them to the deadly virus.
