Nompilo Gwala (born on 01 July 1987 in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa),is a model and actress best known as Nandi from Rhythm City.
In an interview with another publication, the actress opened up about being a victim of rape twice. She was raped at six years old by someone she knew and at 18 years old by her then-boyfriend. Nompilo Gwala’s Saints and Sinners role as Phindi is a reflection of what happened to her younger self. She said the show was acting as a tool to educate others on the subject.
When the talented actress was in primary school she was a victim of bullying and malicious teasing. The rape memory and attending an unsafe school led to her overdosing on painkillers. Fortunately her mother found her and Nompilo survived the attempt. The Rhythm City actress later opened up to her mother about the difficulties she faced as a young adult.
Nompilo Gwala first entered the industry as a model and worked for the local brand, SunGoddess. She has also appeared in major South African and international magazines, including Oprah Magazine, ELLE, Truelove, Glamour, and others.
Her modelling career led to her landing an acting role as a fashion designer Nothando Khumalo in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Inkaba, from 2012-2013.
