Tumie Ngumla was born on the 14th of December 1985 in the small town of Port St Johns, South Africa. She is the youngest of five with three sisters and a brother. Her father is a business man and owner of a motor workshop in Mthatha and her mother is a stay-at-home mother. Tumie’s father was strict and religious with the family always going to their Presbyterian church every Sunday. The actor attended Vela Private School in Mthatha but proved to be quite rebellious and had to be moved to Excelsior Comprehensive School. Even though Tumie is a smart girl education was not her passion hence she struggled with it. The actress took a gap year after matriculating and dropped out of her marketing courses. Of course we know by now that in 2011 Tumei Ngumla won the second season of Class Act an acting talent scout competition. This catapulted her career and led her to become a household name. With her win she was guaranteed a role as ‘Thuli’ in the film “iNumber Number”. In 2013 she played the starring role of ‘Lerato Bogatsu-Daniels” in SABC 1’s “Tempy Pushas” a series set against the backdrop of the lavish fashion world and juxtaposed with the vibrant township culture. In the same year she played the role of ‘Tumi’ in the film Avenged.
The following year the actress had a starring role as ‘Sihle Dlamini’ in the SABC 1 political thriller “Ihawu le Sizwe”. In 2019 Tumie Ngumla played the role of ‘Lazwi’ in the film “The Last Victim” The actress has had multiple appearances and guest roles in a number of shows.
Ngumla’s latest role in is on “Shadow” where she plays the starring role of ‘Zola’. Her cast mates include Pallance Dladla, Khathu Ramabulana and Amanda du Pont. The show has received the Golden Horn Award for Best Achievement in Art Direction/Production Design in TV Drama.
