Mamelodi Sundowns to host PSG and Bayern Munich
Premier Soccer League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns are holding talks with European champions Bayern Munich and French champions Paris Saint Germain over the possibility of playing club friendlies in Tswane.
The reigning PSL champions are making preparations for the celebration of their 50th-anniversary in December and they want to do it big.
The club faces challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic but hopes the relaxation of lockdown rules across the world will make it possible.
The Tswane side hosted Barcelona on the 16th of March in 2018, an achievement that seemed impossible until it was done.
The club owner, billionaire businessman Dr Patrice Motsepe is dreaming of hosting friendlies with the 2020 Uefa Champions League champions finalists.
‘The team has been engaging with three top European teams with an idea to come (sic) down and have a celebratory game of the 50th anniversary, with PSG and Bayern, read part of the minutes of a meeting between club leader Motsepe and the national executive committee during the weekend.
The club will inform its supporters when the regulations allow their plans to happen.
‘The team will also like to inform the yellow nation that when the regulations allow that to happen then the announcement will also be made,” read part of the minutes.
The club recently hired two coaches to jointly lead the treble winners to glory in the 2020/2021 season following the departure of Pitso Mosimane to Egyptian side Al Ahly. Teh legendary coach let Masandawana after seven successful years and was off to a willing start with his new side after beating Al Mokawloon Al Arab SC 1-0 in the Egyptian Premier League.
Sundowns appointed Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena as co-coaches with equal power to oversee the affairs of the first team.
