Hawks Explain Norma Gigaba’s Arrest
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi has explained the arrest of former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba’s wife, Nomachule.
There have been mixed reactions to the arrest of Norma Gigaba with some sections of South Africans on social media arguing that the Hawks’ mandate is to deal with national priority issues such as serious organised crime.
Norma Gigaba was arrested on Friday for alleged domestic violence, assault, malicious damage to property, and crimen injuria.
Responding to eNCA‘s inquiries about why the priority investigations unit, and not the police, got involved in the case, Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said there was more to the story than what’s been reported.
He refused to elaborate more. There are unconfirmed reports Melusi Gigaba had opened a report in May after there were claims that there was an impending hit on his life.
Mulaudzi said, “In this case, we were briefed or informed of a very serious matter which necessitated us to look into it and to investigate it as well. It is not something very light, it is a very serious matter that we are dealing with and unfortunately we cannot get into those details but this is just one part of the investigations that we are dealing with, there is still a second leg that we are going to finalise soon. It is critical as well that the country must understand that as law enforcement we have different methodologies that we use in terms of investigation and this is one of it.”
Norma Gigaba has been released on bail.
Her attorney, Victor Nkwashu, confirmed her release on Saturday night.
She is expected in court on Monday facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property.
Malusi and Norma’s marriage took another fatal blow after the former minister was allegedly caught red-handed cheating with another woman.
In response to the betrayal, Norma damaged Malusi Gigaba’s Mercedes Benz G Wagon, a video that went viral on social media.
Savannanews previously reported that Malusi Gigaba and Norma”s marriage has been a troubled one from the beginning. Reports indicate that Norma was Gigaba’s side chick and got pregnant. A marriage was borne out of the pregancy.
Gigaba was also once caught cheating with United States based model Buhle Mkhize but the scandal did not break his union with Norma. A war of words erupted between Norma and Buhle Mkhize after the later bragged about bedding by then Home Affairs Minister. Gigaba reportedly flew Buhle from the United States to South Africa for a special weekend.
