Early Life and Education
Holly grew up in a family of musicians and percussionist therefore she was exposed to music at a young age. Her oldest uncle played instruments for her when she visited, so she developed interest in music. Soon she learned to play the guitar and drums. Her uncle being a writer and music reviewer, assisted her in composing music till she started recording. Holly Rey did her primary and secondary in KwaZulu Natal. In 2019, she graduated with an Honors degree in Media and Communication Cum Laude, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

This was followed by the release of her debut album ‘Strawberry Skies’ in 2010 which became a favorite for teens. Next, she released a three-track EP and a single called ‘Bang Bang’. In 2017, she dropped her second album tittled ‘Vanilla House’. Holly Rey finally rose to prominence following the release of her hit ‘Deeper’ produced by Mondli Ngcobo. The hit song made her first woman to win Record of the Year at the SAMAs in 20 years at the 25th edition. Brenda Fassie was the last woman to win the prestigious award.
