In the midst of celebrating the rescue of the family in Mutirikwi river in Chiredzi, it has been reported that four more people including a 11 month old baby are still missing. It was established after the rescue operation that there had actually been 8 females who had tried to cross the river.
Earlier today an Airforce helicopter from Josiah Tungamirai Airbase rescued a family of a mother and her five daughters. The woman and her children took refuge on an island in Mutirikwi river. The family survived a cold night in the rains as heavy rains continued to hit the area. Chiredzi is situated in the low veld making it prone to flooding.

The water levels have considerably reduced in Mutirikwi River. The Civil Protection Unit continues to alert the residents of the dangers of staying close to the river and also to vacate when prolonged rains pour.
On social media, the public continues to applaud the Police and locals for rescuing the family. Some go on to say,
“Well done”
“Good news, Thumps up to all those involved in the rescue starting with the informers”
Searches are still in progress to find the missing victims. Both the society and the organizations responsible, that is the police and the Civil Protection Unit are working very hard to rescue the missing people.
The flooding comes after the Cyclone Chalene hit the Eastern part of the country and the low veld. Many are celebrating the much anticipated rains this season but too much of anything is never good.
This incident sees many reminiscing on the events of the Cyclone Idai that wrecked the Eastern Highlands in 2019. A lot of Chimanimani residents were left destitute with other swallowed up by the floods never to be recovered.
