Govt Considers Zoom Meetings For Civil Servants Salary Negotiations
Zimbabwe’s Government has said it is considering Zoom meeting for salary negotiations with civil servants.
Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe confirmed the development to The Herald.
Consultations with civil servants representatives on a possible date to finalise salary negotiations are underway following delays in the planned discussions after some key members in the processes were impacted by Covid-19.

Wutawunashe said Government is considering Zoom meetings among a host of several possibilities being lined up, but any arrangement needs to be done in consultation with workers’ representatives.
He said, “Some members who are very important to these negotiations have been impacted by Covid-19 which has stalled the progress of the talks. But now on the part of Government, we are ready for the resumption of the negotiations. Ideally, the Government was willing to finalise the negotiations this month. But for now, we have engaged the civil servants’ representatives on the possible way forward, that is the next date of the meeting, and maybe the possibility of Zoom meetings.”
The country’s Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prof Paul Mavima urged unions representing civil servants to be realistic with their proposals.
Negotiations come at a time when the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has said that it will not disburse the US$75 covid-19 allowances in cash because it is economically unviable.

Nurses who have been on strike have also refused to go back to work despite being reinstated on the payroll.
The striking health workers did not receive their July salaries after the Health Services Board (HSB) implemented the no-work-no-pay principle.
The nurses have vowed not to go back to work until their salary adjustment demands are met.
