The Zimbabwe government has deferred the re-opening of schools pending a review of the current Covid-19 situation, Savanna News has learnt.
Writing of examinations will be allowed to continue.
The announcement was made in today’s cabinet briefing as coronavirus cases have leaped over 1,000 in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile South Africa’s largest teachers union SADTU has resolved to close schools until Covid-19 peak has passed. South Africa has recorded over 288,000 covid-19 cases since March.

The following are today’s notable cabinet resolutions:
*Cabinet resolved that Govt shall be solely responsible for for inter-city travel for those that really require to travel, especially to seek medical attention.

*Cabinet directed that the re-opening of schools shall be deferred pending a review of the situation, while the writing of examinations continues.
*Cabinet approved that current lockdown restrictions be tightened, while localised lcockdowns are introduced in hotspot areas and any further re-opening of the economy be halted.

*Cabinet further noted with concerns that some members of a religious sect have gathered in Manicaland for their retreat in contravention of the lockdown regulations. Cabinet has directed that the gathering should disperse.
