The Zimbabwe army and the police have taken over MDC Alliance headquarters formerly known as the Harvest House before the renaming to Morgan Tsvangirai House. The hostile takeover happened during last night. Our news crew visited the building in the morning and witnessed heavy police and army presence. The development comes after the Supreme court ordered the opposition party MDC-T to revert to 2014 structures.

The controversial ruling also enabled a losing presidential candidate of the MDC-T to take over another party MDC Alliance. The moves have been met with little resistance as they are all being enforced by the security forces whilst the nation is under lockdown.

Present at the takeover incident was MDC Alliance Secretary General Chalton Hwende. In a video shot by TechMag TV. Hwende could be heard arguing with the police as they referred him to the soldiers manning the entrance of the building. “I cannot speak to the soldiers, i have to talk to yourselves the police. Our security guards are being beaten inside the building,” Hwende said.
Hwende’s confrontations fell on deaf ears as the soldiers continued to invade the building. He was barred from entering the building.
MDC Alliance published a statement on the illegal invasion of private property. They also reported that the army severely assaulted security guards inside the building. The party vowed to do everything in their power to regain access to their headquarters.

The move has been widely condemned by citizens as army interference in civil matters has become the norm. Recently the MDC-T leadership visited Buhera to perform rituals at Morgan Tsvangirai’s grave in the middle of the national lockdown that prohibits inter provincial travel.
