South African artist Zakes Bantwini is set to mark an impressive milestone: 20 years in the music industry. To celebrate this achievement, he will host a grand anniversary concert at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on July 5.
The concert promises to be unforgettable, featuring performances of Zakes Bantwini’s greatest hits and special guest appearances from fellow renowned artists. Local creatives Nandi Madida, TBO Touch, Boity, Minnie Dlamini, Kwenzo Ngcobo, Heazy, Robot Boii, and Mpho Popps will host the event.
Reflecting on his journey, Zakes Bantwini emphasized the importance of collaboration in his success. “Working with talented artists and creating music that resonates globally has been incredibly fulfilling,” he said. Looking back on the past two decades, he expressed pride in their achievements and excitement for the future.
Zakes Bantwini’s career began in 2004 while he was studying at the Durban University of Technology. He founded Mayonie Productions, which paved the way for his illustrious career as one of South Africa’s most influential music figures.
His distinctive sound catapulted him to the forefront of Southern African house music. Notable albums include “Love, Light, and Music” (2013), “Love, Light, and Music 2” (2017), “Ghetto King” (2021), and “The Star Is Reborn” (2023), featuring the smash hit “Mama Thula.”
In 2023, Zakes Bantwini achieved a career highlight by winning a Grammy for Best Global Music Performance for “Bayethe,” a collaboration with Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode.
