You will be arrested for not wearing a face mask, Zimbabwe government says
The government revealed that people who will get in public areas without face masks will be arrested as a measure to follow Lockdown level 2 guidelines.
As announced by the head of state, President Emerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe extends its lockdown by further 14 days but under relaxed Level 2.
Level 2 lockdown implies that companies in the Industry and Commerce will operate from 8am to 3pm. COVID-19 guidelines of social distancing, mandatory screening and testing will be observed and law enforcement agencies will be on the lookout for compliance.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana revealed that wearing of face masks in public was now law. This was effected after a Statutory Instrument was gazetted by the President and those breaking the law will face arrest.
In his speech, President Mnangagwa said, it is mandatory to wear face masks when leaving your homes and in public spaces, these masks include clinical and even homemade.
Saloons and restaurants will operate with everyone wearing a face mask
Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana also revealed that informal sector remained closed. Hence those in the informal sector were not exempted from the lockdown. However restaurants and other food outlets when observing coronavirus guidelines may open and serve food. However, they must ensure patrons carry their food home. Face masks, sanitizers, testing and social distancing must be observed always.

Saloons will be allowed operate. They will open if complying with all these requirements such as social distancing, testing, wearing masks and sanitizers. Thus the hairdresser and the client must wear masks and social distancing observed.
“People have to understand that the virus is still with us. Nothing has happened to the virus. We need to continue taking caution and understand that the lockdown is still in force. However, the directive means that some businesses have to open but people have to be tested first. If they are found to be positive they will be quarantined, he said.”
