Whatsapp is warming up to the demands of its billions of users. The messaging tech giant will now allow users to use Whatsapp on multiple devices without violating its policies.
Whatsapp started to design the multiple devices feature back in 2020 as the demand for using WhatsApp while the phone is offline growing. The company’s major hurdle was maintaining end-to-end encryption on all the devices used. A new system had to be created to allow encrypted messages to sync among the multiple devices.
The Beta version of the function is now available for Android and iOS. You can now use up to four devices without connecting your phone to the internet or having it nearby.
The role your phone plays on Multiple Device Whatsapp
To connect the devices, you still need your smartphone to scan the QR code displayed on the device you want to connect on the initial connection. Once the connection is made, the device will operate independently from other devices, but the messages will be synced.
If your battery runs out, or if you forget your phone at home while it’s off, you can still use WhatsApp at your workplace.
Limitations of multi-device Whatsapp
The new features have their terms or limitations. You cannot use it on more than one smartphone while your phone is connected to the same Whatsapp. Also, you cant view live locations or join and leave groups from the linked devices.
People using multiple devices will not be able to communicate with very old versions of Whatsapp. Your friends have to update their applications to chat with you.
