Wydad Casablanca appoints Ex Sundown’s coach Miguel Gamondi as interim manager
CAF Champions League semi-finalist Wydad Casablanca appointed former Mamelodi Sundown’s head Coach Miguel Gamondi as interim manager with immediate effect.
Gamondi joined Wydad in January as technical director this year as part of their overhaul restructuring of the club after an indifferent start to the campaign but the upheavals have haunted the club up to now as he becomes their fifth coach of the season.
Miguel Garrido former Villarreal and Al Ahly tactician was relieved off his duties with immediate effect after Wydad drew with FAR Rabat earlier this week.
The draw with Rabat left Wydad trailing log leaders Raja Casablanca albeit with four points.
Savanna Sports understands that the string of poor results after the resumption of the Bolota are of concern to the club hierarchy.
The poor run of form prompted the dismissal of the Spaniard from his duties and led to the appointment of Gamondi who the hierarchy hope’s that he can turn the tables around.
Gamondi who won the South Africa top-flight league a decade ago as a joint manager with Neil Tovey will lead the African Giants on a temporary basis.
The Argentine gaffer will have to reinvigorate the squad if they are to fight for honors ahead of their last-four tie with Al Ahly.
The well-traveled Argentine had stints in Algeria, United Arab Emirates, and with WAC’s domestic rivals Hassia Agadir before landing his post at the 20-time league Champions.
