“Bring Randall back”, Mzansi, outraged by the current Idols SA judges panel for being too soft.

Idols SA’s 18th season debut has received mixed reactions among South Africans; though the current season looks promising and competitive amongst contestants, the new judge’s panel failed to impress the audience. New Idols SA judges panel comprising singer and actress Thembi Seete, producer and artist JR Bogopa and the return of previously suspended judge and celebrity Somizi failed to captivate fans and castigated being too soft.

The return of Somizi

The return of Somizi of the “Whoo shame” trademark brought the spark which lacked in the 17th season of the show after he was suspended due to domestic violence allegations. Somizi’s ex-husband Mohale Motaung publicly alleged that the superstar abused him during their short-lived marriage. The drop in ratings and viewership of the show’s previous season, season 17, pushed the management to reinstate the fan’s favourite judge.

Somizi didn’t disappoint on his return; clad in a purple outfit and matching wig on his head; he reverted to what fans expected him. Singing along with struggling contestants and later giving them a no to sarcastic motivational speaking, Somizi delivered a total packed in the debut episode.
