Early Life and Education
She has been dupped as the next big thing to Mzansi’s small screens. The bubbly actress was born on 2 September 1998. She was born in the Eastern Cape village of Cala in the Sakhisizwe Local Municipality. At the age of three, she moved to Johannesburg with her family.
Her craze for acting was discovered whilst she was young through school productions. She graced small screens through advertisements. Of interest is the fact that she is an alumna of Reddam House Bedfordview. After enrolling in 2016, she took a gap year. She enrolled at the University of Cape Town for a Theatre and Performance degree but withdrew during her second year.
Ama Qamata’s Relationship with Gomora and Blood & Water Directors
In recent years she has been reported to be related to some celebrated producers. However, as alleged, she seems unrelated to Gomora or Blood & Water producers. Kutlwano Ditsele, the casting director for Blood & Water, was the executive producer on Gomora and invited Qamata to audition, which she did successfully. Qamata has also had roles in Rhythm City and Commandos: The Mission.
Ama Qamata’s Career
Her unmatched acting flair saw her securing her first acting gig at 17. Qamata made her small screen debut when she played a lead role as Naledi in the situation comedy My Perfect Family. The comedy series was aired on SABC1.
A few years later, she bagged a role on Mzansi Magic’s most-watched drama series Gomora. In 2020 she was cast alongside some of Mzansi’s big names on small screens, like Sindi Dlathu. In Gomora, she played the character of Buhle before she kissed goodbye to her on-screen character in 2022.
In 2021 she was cast in Netflix’s Blood & Water. She plays the character of Puleng. In the drama series, she has a sister who was abducted at birth, and Puleng is trying to prove that a successful swimmer from a private school is, in fact, her sister.
