Sonya de Vynck suspended: The white teacher who threatened to kneel on pupil’s necks the same as the police officer who killed George Floyd did has been suspended. Sonya de Vynck, is a an arts teacher at Pinnacle College Kyalami in Kyalami in Gauteng province of South Africa. The suspension comes after she threatened to kneel on students the same way Derek Chauvin, a poliice officer in Minneapolis killed a black man George Floyd by using a knee choke. The incident has caused a worldwide condemnation with violent protests being witnessed in many cities in the Unites States.
The Chief operating officer at Pinnacle Colleges Christo de Wit says the school are deeply shocked by the utterances of de Vynck. He also announced the teacher has been suspended pending an investigation and a disciplinary procedure. The suspension of Sonya de Vynck comes as parents were calling for action on the teacher.
De Wit also said the principal of the school has taken leave as he is trying to come in terms with the development that just happened.
De Vynck was teaching an online class when she allegedly said: “If you don’t hand in your practice drawings when we get back, then I will give you something to protest about, and maybe sit on your necks.”

The teacher soon apologised for her utterances and said she did not mean any harm to the pupils.
“It wasn’t my intention and I didn’t want to put someone down who lost their lives while people were watching and being helpless.
“I never wanted to offend you. I never wanted to offend Mr Floyd. I would never – I know you need time but just know that I am not a person like that, I am not a racist person. I would never have done that. It was a silly thing that popped into my head.”
