‘Where are the soldiers?’ Mzansi asks after Cash in Transit heist in Pretoria
Cash in transit heist has been reported in Pretoria Danville. Sources say a bomb was used and shots were fired. The Danville Post Office van was allegedly attacked by two vehicles. Many are shocked by the incident but are asking how come deployed soldiers did not respond to the call after the hit.
After days of unrest, violence and looting, the government saw it fit to deploy armed soldiers so as to curb the violence, looting and such crime cases. However, this seems not to be effective very when it comes to responding to crimes in areas.
The comments on social media reflect that citizens do not really trust the authorities. This is because most suspect SAPS and SANDF. It is very noble to find other ways of transiting cash like the use of helicopters because once criminals start they keep going.

Here are some of the comments from the worried citizens:
“Where are his soldiers? Or soldiers are taking a course of DJ’s at SABC.”
“Thought the visibility of soldiers will decrease the number of this robberies?”
“I start to think soldiers are meant for law abiding citizen not criminals. are here to deal with issues like mask mandate, look for tin stuff and other minor issue. someone of these CIT robbers are alleged to be ex-soldiers or police officers. they might meet their match”
“There is a lot of SANDF and SAPS personnel roaming the streets. They couldnt even respond?? or at least persue the criminals?”
We have seen reports of SAPS and SANDF catching criminals on a daily basis. This cannot discard their efforts but members of the public need to see more of their presence even in such cases. Time of response is vital as it can save someone’s life.
