The trial of Senzo Meyiwa, a famous soccer player murdered in 2014, began this week and has generated a lot of discussion on social media. Zandie Khumalo, the sister of Kelly Khumalo, a well-known singer, testified in court. Her testimony raised more questions than it answered about Meyiwa’s murder.
Many people criticized Meyiwa for cheating on his wife, Mandisa Meyiwa and ruining his own life after hearing Zandie describe the nature of Meyiwa’s relationship with her sister.
Senzo Meyiwa criticized for his behaviour towards women
It has been nearly a decade since Senzo Meyiwa, a football star, was shot and killed while visiting Kelly Khumalo, his girlfriend at the time, at her home in Vosloorus.
Meyiwa’s death as the goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates caused outrage throughout South Africa. Despite this, suspects in the murder were not arrested until 2020, six years after his death.
The lengthy trial continued this week, with Zandile Khumalo trending on social media after she testified in court.
Meyiwa himself also trended as locals discussed his love life and cheating scandals. One person, in particular, blamed the soccer star for his death.
According to the tweep, he could have saved himself by staying faithful to his wife and keeping away from the Khumalo sisters.
