Zanu PF says it welcomes the unfollowing of President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Twitter.
This was said by the party’s director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi in an interview with ZiFM Stereo on Wednesday.
Mugwadi denied Mnangagwa was unfollowed by people on Twitter saying that Zimbabwe’s president was unfollowed by what he termed internet robots and ghost accounts.
Zimbabweans over the weekend unfollowed Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Twitter using the hashtag #unfollowED or #unfollowMnangagwa.
By Saturday night Mnangagwa’s twitter account had lost 12 000 followers. Despite a campaign for people to follow Mnangagwa on Twitter which coincided with the #unfollowED campaign, Mugwadi said Zanu PF and Mnangagwa are unfazed by the campaign.
Mugwadi said
Let me tell you for us, it is a welcome development because we are simply saying the President should not have been followed by robots, Twitter robots. I will tell you this because there are a lot of ghost accounts. What does it pay for Pachedu for example to withdraw its following on the President’s handle on Twitter? Who is Pachedu? We do not have a person like that. We lose nothing from being unfollowed by such characters. Those were troll accounts created by the opposition and created for this purpose which they are doing. We do not mind about them. The President is home and dry about that. He doesn’t give a minute thinking about all that is happening about that. We don’t care about that. Infact all that we would want to say is that for us it’s a welcome development because we are saying…ghost accounts are now moving away from discussions on the President’s handle because they were beconing toxic on that handle. We literally do not want them on that handle….
