Fans were in awe when Nonny “Phindile Gwala” from Muvhango revealed what she looks like without a weave. Her friend recorded her on Tik Tok and posted it, catching her when she least expected it. They had just left an event and she was wearing a stunning red dress, and he discovered her in her car without a weave. However, South Africans could not stop gushing about her stunning appearance without the wig. Everyone praised her and stated that she didn’t need it.
Phindile proved she is not one of those people who look entirely different when they are not wearing their hair, and most people even say they are not as beautiful. She is a beauty, naturally! In the KwaZulu Natal town of Eshowe, Phindile Gwala was born in December 1986. She spent most of her childhood in Kwa Zulu Natal and only moved away later to pursue a career in television. Nonny is 35 years old currently.
The persona she portrayed became one of the most well-known characters in the SABC2 soap opera. Nonny was the receptionist every office has; she was a colourful character constantly filled with drama. She acted in the part for five years, and Nonny has become more famous than her real name, Phindile Gwala. On Muvhango, she was a drama queen, especially when she had to wait for other actors to finish their scenes. But this can be attributed to her taking her job seriously.
Phindile acknowledged that after her first day of filming, she could not leave her character on the set. However, a lesser-known fact is that she went through 30 auditions before the part was specifically written for her. As she started her career, she learned acting through the workshops Muvhango led. The show’s receptionist, Nonny, was warm and forgiving toward everyone. The role came naturally for Phindile, who had always wanted to be a psychologist.
Phindile gave notice that she was leaving Muvhango in July 2017. She was prepared to leave after achieving incredible success as the show’s enthusiastic receptionist. Her departure caused sadness among fans of the character. She stated that she wanted to expand her brand beyond Muvhango. She concentrated on her entrepreneurial endeavours during this time.
In Wynberg, Johannesburg, Phindile Gwala and Armando Ngandu established a Shisa Nyama and Lotha car wash. They continue to run the business jointly, with Phindile concentrating on the catering side and Armando on the car wash. Thato Gwala, daughter of Phindile, lost her father in a car accident when she was a child. Armando also has a daughter named Lola and claims that being a father is easy. Therefore, they are raising their children jointly! Nonny from Muvhango might look good without a weave, but she is engaged to Armando and, therefore, unavailable.
