When International artist John Legend released his song Nervous, he took to Tik Tok to challenge singers on an open verse of the song. South African musician Mthandazo Gatya joined the craze on Tik Tok and trended within 5hours of posting his video. Luckily for Mthandazo Gatya, the noise over his open verse reached the ears of John Legend, and he has gone international as he was called to perform with him on stage.
Taking to Twitter, Anele Mdoda shared a video clip of Mthandazo performing on stage with John Legend. The television personality captioned her post:

Road to the live performance
After John Legend started musicians to do the Open Mic challenge, Mthandazo heeded the call and joined in the viral challenge. The South African singer posted his Zulu verse to the English song, and South Africans went crazy. The Tik Tok video was retweeted and posted all over social media till John Legend put his stamp of approval by retweeting the video. The International musician once talked about his love for Africa, and his fans from Africa quickly got in touch with Mthandazo and flew him over for a live performance together.

During their performance, when the Zulu singer was perfoming, the crowd screamed and loved the arrangement. Fans of Mthandazo have been sharing the video of his performance, congratulating the artist on his International stage debut. Mzansi applauds the power of social media and supports one of their own as Mthandazo feels humbled by the support his fans and his country had in landing this opportunity of a lifetime.
Who is Mthandazo Gatya?
Gatya was raised in Weilers Farm in Johannesburg, and his love for music has been evident since childhood. He debuted in Mzansi’s entertainment scene when he landed the second prize on Jam Alley. His family did not support his career choice, so he pursued the road independently. He is a SAMA nominee and two-time Platinum certified singer, and when asked about his genre of music, he says he is a spiritual person and sings whatever message he feels in his soul.
