Manchester United footballer Jesse Lingard has joined the amapiano bandwagon as the South African originated genre spreads into the world. Lingard shared a video of a speaker playing the song Amaneighbour by Killer Kau and Mr JazziQ. In another post, the footballer revealed he could make an Amapiano playlist.
Other South African musicians have abandoned their genres to make more money with the trending genre amapiano. Cassper Nyovest, who just won the Artist of the Decade at the South African Hip Hop Awards, was one of the first prominent artists to cross over to amapiano. Another singer Vusi Nova changed his name to Snova and crossed over to Amapiano.
The world embraces Amapiano
Before Lingard, P Diddy, Usher Raymonds, Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys played the genre.
P Diddy celebrates Kabza De Small.
The legendary producer and hip hop star jammed to Kabza De Small’s music last year just before Christmas while advertising his alcohol brand Ciroc. He tagged the ‘King of Amapiano’ in the post, and Kabza thanked Diddy for his kind act.
Earlier this year, Focalistic also woke up to find Diddy dancing to his song. The video was all over social media, with his work noticed worldwide. He thanked Diddy for recognising the effort he puts into the music industry.
Usher Raymond on Kabza and Cassper
In a Versace advert, US RnB singer usher Raymond played Sponono by Kabza De Small, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Cassper Nyovest and Madumane. The multi-award-winning singer and dancer mentioned the artists on the Instagram post, much to the excitement of South African artists who are witnessing a new genre originating from their country getting international recognition.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz
Swizz Beatz was also played by Pitori Maradona together with his wife Alicia Keys after the music became a hit in both South Africa. The hit also got airplay in the United States. The record producer and rapper joined the bandwagon and jammed to it.

Besides being an outstanding midfielder, English International is also known for his good music taste. His celebrations on the field, the dances and social media posts depict his deep love for music. South Africans felt honoured after he played the late Killer Kau and Mr JazziQ‘s music Amaneighbour.
